Unloop · last updated 18 October 2026
Unloop helps you notice and interrupt compulsive short-video scrolling. It comes as an Android app and a Chrome extension. This policy describes exactly what each collects, why, and how to remove it.
Unloop uses Android's Accessibility Service, which is the only way an app can tell that a short-video feed is on screen. It is used solely to recognise that a reel is being shown in Instagram or YouTube, and to display Unloop's own reminder overlays on top of them.
Screen content read by the service is used in the moment to detect a reel and is not stored on your device or transmitted anywhere, with one exception stated plainly: the creator name shown on a reel is sent to your account, as described above. The service is never used for advertising, profiling, or sale of data.
The Unloop extension runs only on instagram.com and youtube.com.
On Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts it detects that a video is playing so it can count
reels and show Unloop's reminder, blur and lock screens.
identity permission and opens Google's sign-in page. Google returns an ID
token with your email, name and profile picture. The extension sends it to our server
once to open your account, and does not keep it. We never see your Google password.Crash reports are written to your device only. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to share a report yourself from the app's Settings screen.
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Data is stored on our hosting and database providers purely to operate the service.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app, or by following the instructions at this page, which also covers extension users. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
Unloop is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
